~ Hearts & Ex Voto

The Decorated House ~ Valentine's Day Decorating - Roses - Mercury Glass - Heart Stones and Ex Voto

When you take a moment to look closely, you often see things that you miss in your daily running around at full speed. It wasn't really until only a few years ago that I noticed heart shaped beach stones, even though I grew up near the ocean and spent many wonderful hours there. For Valentine's Day especially I love bringing out this shadow box that shows off the Heart Stones along with a silver Ex Voto and an Antique Skeleton Key. It's on the entry table along with some roses, the Mercury glass heart, and one of the little silver crowns and another small silver heart. Sweet Hubby and I a very simple short vacation at the beach the year we found these, when all we did was walk the beach and swim and eat. Very boring stuff for most people today, but we thought is was perfect. During those long walks I began to notice how beautiful the shades of gray were in the shells and I as I started collecting a few for color and paint inspiration, I noticed the heart shaped stones. They remind me of the beach and a very happy time.  The pretty hearts on the entry table this year, reminding me to look for the heart in all, and to see with my heart, not just the eyes and brain.

See Y'All Soon~

  3. Lovely Donna. I have been busy purchasing things on sale after Christmas to "TRY" and use your tree and mantel for my inspiration for next year. Was happy to see the Ex Voto as I actually found the exact one! I wrote before about the crown, did not find but will send you a photo when it's done of what I am using as a substitute. My home is very different and no mantel on my fireplace so my entry table will take the place of the fireplace. Thank you for all your inspiration! Joy from http://howdidyoudothat-jojo.blogspot.com/

    1. Hi Joy,
Thanks for your sweet note. I will be looking forward to see what you create for Christmas. I too think charming arrangements can be created on a table or shelf as well as on a mantel. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. I saw some lovely photos online of heart stone collections. I asked my 3 grandsons to start looking for them for me. Now they have even more meaning. I have my small collection started. Funny, when I look for them, I can't find them.

    1. Hi Pamela,
I know what you mean about looking for the heart stone, and then they are more elusive! We spent hours walking the beach and found only a few. I can see why yours are extra special to you. Thanks for coming by.
