~ Wisdom & Magic

For the last month or so Jupiter has put on a dazzling night display in the early evening sky. Since we are out walking shortly after dusk, we have been in awe of the giant planet's beauty along with his companions in the night sky. You could not help but think of the story of the Magicians - Magi, the men of Astrology and Wisdom, that have become a part of our Christmas celebrations.

The Epiphany is celebrated on Sunday this year, and we will again be enjoying our French Onion soup meal which we have done for many, many years now. It's a lovely peasant meal after all the usual lavish food of the season. The last day of the Christmas season, I hope to be taking a moment to choose what the new year will be. Choosing Peace - Light - Beauty - Love and Wisdom. It me gives Hope. May your new year be filled with Goodness & Light.
(The lyrics to "Let It Be" were written by Paul McCartney.)

  1. Hi Donna,

The last day of Christmas season is on January 13th. Feast of the Baptism of the Lord Jesus Christ.

And The 3 Kings were Astronomers and not Astrolegers.

Very beautiful Creche and Merry Christmas!

  2. Hello Fernanda,
Different traditions have evolved over the years haven't they?

Also, no historical information to support the travelers as being kings, and astrology and astronomy were very inter-related for thousands of years.

It's wonderful to hear more traditions. I don't remember a date associated with the baptism of Jesus. So that was a great little added information.

I'm glad you enjoyed the pretty creche that we have had for several years. Happy New Year!

  3. It's nice to see someone who keeps the Christmas season going all the way through Epiphany. My husband and I like to keep it going as well, but we often feel like we're the only ones, at least around here.

I enjoyed your post very much.

  4. Donna,
I, too, noticed how the "night sky" has been especially illuminated this Christmas Season. Amazing, when one is atuned to the Spirit and observes the Reason for the Season that our eyes are opened to the wonders of the ancient days!!! Your Nativity and creche are so impressive. Thank you for this post!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat
