~ HAPPY WEEKEND

Does an open door showing stacks of stuff drive you crazy?
Me, too.

Lately I have had more than a few stacks of papers waiting for attention. But I spent the last week finishing up the tax returns for us, and Sweet Daughter. I remember trying to figure out all the new tax laws and hoping to get everything right even with a small business long before computers and tax return programs. Sometimes progress is a very good thing. I've had plans for our refund months and months ago. I bet most people do as well.

Hopefully now I can get some de-cluttering going on around this little house. But you know what? If I had a beautiful old library cabinet with books from the 1800's spilling out of the shelves, I would have a hard time "cleaning it up." Maybe I would just stack the books a little bit so they were not falling out ..... and I might shut the doors. But after I admire the beauty.

Have a Great Weekend!

~ Happy Valentine’s Day

Most of my “old” blog friends have heard the story of how I turned down this beautiful set of red transferware dishes that had belonged to my husband’s grandmother. Not once or twice, but a few more than that. It was quite a while ago. Then they were offered to Sweet Daughter, years before she had her own home, and she happily accepted them. A few years after that, I was sorry I had turned them down. They are so pretty, so vintage, and so charming.

I kept them for safekeeping for a several years and used them just like I owned them. By now I had come to appreciate "old" things better. So I thought maybe Sweet Daughter would forget about them or decide she didn't want some "old lady" dishes from so long ago. But when she bought her first home, she was quick to take some of the dishes to their new home. I still got to keep some. When she recently had a party, she needed a lot of dishes and the red transferware was called into duty.
It was rather interesting how many of the ladies oohed and aahed over those dishes. A few of them had been collecting the same dishes as well. But what they all loved best was the fact that the dishes had traveled through time and family. They had belonged to Sweet Daughter’s great grandmother and that was special to others. It’s a treasure whether you knew the relative or not to have a continuation of your family in your home.
I was in labor on Valentine’s Day many years ago, and so this weekend is Sweet Daughter’s Birthday Weekend! I’ll make a couple of large heart shaped chocolate chip cookies and something yummy for dinner on Sunday. On Monday we are playing girls’ day out and going to have a nice pedicure and do a little shopping. And I think puppy is going for a bit of grooming, too. I treasure these days so much.
Usually I bring out these lovely old dishes because the red is so perfect on Valentine's Day. This year I'll miss them. Lesson learned.
Hope your weekend is a wonderful one.

When it gets cold tonight, I will not complain. The thirties without being snowed-in would be a welcome relief to thousands of people. After the doors are locked up for the night, I'll just get out an extra blanket and not even think about complaining one tiny bit.

It would be nice to have Spring come early this year.
I hope it does for all of you who have too much snow.

See Y'all Soon

~ Happy Weekend

One World One Heart GiveAway
'til Feb 14th .... Here
...................................................

M
y sis called to remind me that she was going to Charleston. Actually she was calling to rub it in that she was there having a wonderful time. It made me think about how much I miss Savannah and Charleston when I haven't been in a while. It was a working-around -the-house vacation this past week. Something that just had to be done, and we did get a few of things accomplished from our very long to-do list. But it would have been more fun to be in Charleston. And I'm really happy that she is there because she adores being in Charleston. A little work, and I hope a lot of play time.

Hope you have a great weekend.
